Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of Micron Technology, visited the BITS Pilani Library on November 10, 2024. A visionary leader in the semiconductor memory industry, Sanjay has played a transformative role in advancing technologies that drive innovation in computing architecture and artificial intelligence. As Micron's CEO since 2017, Sanjay has steered the company during a pivotal era, unlocking new opportunities in memory and storage to revolutionize how information is utilized globally. Before joining Micron, he co-founded SanDisk Corporation in 1988, leading it as President and CEO from 2011 to 2016. Under his leadership, SanDisk grew from a start-up to a Fortune 500 industry leader before its acquisition in 2016. With over 40 years of experience, Sanjay has held engineering and leadership roles at leading companies like Intel Corporation, SEEQ Technology, and Integrated Device Technology. He holds more than 70 patents, including foundational contributions to high-capacity flash memory, a cornerstone of modern computing. His scholarly contributions include numerous publications on nonvolatile memory design and flash memory systems. Sanjay's achievements have earned him prestigious accolades, including induction into the National Academy of Engineering in 2022 and an honorary doctorate from Boise State University in recognition of his contributions to the semiconductor industry. He also serves on the board of directors for CDW Corporation and the Semiconductor Industry Association. A passionate advocate for STEM education, Sanjay champions initiatives that inspire youth, particularly underserved communities, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. At Micron, he has led efforts to build an inclusive and equitable workplace, achieving global pay equity and increasing diversity in engineering, technology, and leadership roles. Sanjay holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a graduate of Stanford’s Executive Program in Business. His visit to BITS Pilani Library underscores his commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation, inspiring future leaders in technology and engineering.
