Getting Started

Visit the Koha Online Library Catalogue and log in to view the books you have borrowed, renew borrowed books online, reserve books, check any outstanding fines, reset your password, and update your profile information..... Click Here.

 

 

All currently registered students are permitted to log in to the Library website using their Institute email ID. To access the website, Click here to visit. If you encounter any issues while logging in, kindly contact the Library staff available at the Information Counter for assistance.

All users must carry their valid Institute ID card and record entry and exit through the Patron Traffic Manager. Library materials are issued only through in-person visits, and ID cards are non-transferable. Personal belongings and food must be deposited at the baggage counter except laptops, phones, iPads, and valuables. The Library is not responsible for personal items. Misuse of ID cards or barcodes is strictly prohibited. Know more  click on the Link.

The BITS Pilani Library is open from 9:00 AM to 12:00 midnight on all working days, except on select National Holidays. During examination periods, the Library remains open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 AM. The full academic-year timetable and holiday schedule is available here Link

Book a Study Space

The Library offers Group Discussion Rooms (2 rooms, max 3 students each) and a Brainstorm Room (10–20 participants). Makerspace and HPC facilities are also available for longer bookings subject to approval.

Rooms can be booked for one hour only. The same group cannot book multiple slots or consecutive hours on the same day.

Visitors are required to obtain prior approval before visiting the BITS Pilani Library. The Library is a state-of-the-art academic knowledge centre supporting teaching, learning, and advanced research across disciplines. It also houses the BITS Pilani Heritage Gallery, which showcases the rich legacy of the institution—from its 1901 Pathshala origins to its emergence as a premier institute of national importance. The Gallery highlights the architectural evolution of the campus, major milestones in institutional development, distinguished Padma awardees, the BITSian Author Gallery, the Children’s Library, the Rare Book Collection, and key library facilities and services. Book the room online through the Library website. Log in, select an available time slot, provide a valid justification, and submit your request for approval. The booking status will be communicated through an automated email.

If the room is not occupied within 30 minutes of the scheduled booking time, the reservation will be cancelled automatically.

To book a room,  Visit Booking website and Login and complete the required details. It is mandatory to enter the email IDs of all students who will be using the room.

No member is permitted to book consecutive time slots. If you require the room for more than one hour, you must write in advance to the Chief Librarian with a proper justification and obtain prior approval.

Accessing Library Resources

You can visit the Library and browse the shelves, or search the Library Catalogue  ....... Click to visit to locate books in advance. Once identified, you may borrow books to support your academic studies or for personal and leisure reading.

You can access over 300,000 e-books and 15,000 e-journals online anytime. Use Online Catalogue to find books, ebooks, journals, and articles. You can also explore:

Books can be borrowed by locating them in the Library or through the Catalogue. Self-service kiosks and Library staff are available to assist with issuing.
A book can be issued for 20 days, after which it may be renewed if no other user has placed a hold on it.

User recommendations directly contribute to the development and enrichment of the Library collection.

BITS Pilani Library uses the OpenAthens Single Sign-On (SSO) remote access platform to provide authorised users with access to e-resources. The Library does not provide remote access to e-resources for alumni.

Learning Support

Students can create their own personalized reading list by logging in to the KOHA Library Catalogue.

After signing in:

  • Click on “Add to List”
  • Assign a list name for private use
  • Save the list
  • Search for reference books or textbooks
  • Select titles and add them to your list

Many leisure reading titles are also available as eBooks, allowing you to read online or download in accessible formats anytime and anywhere.

During examination periods, the Library extends its working hours and provides quiet study areas and access to essential resources for exam preparation.

 

Previous Year Question Papers (PYQs) for all subjects are also available through the BITS Library collection. This is one of the largest collections of previous year questions available online.

The Library submits all awarded theses to Shodhganga: A Reservoir of Indian Theses at INFLIBNET, in compliance with UGC regulations. As per the mandatory guidelines, all Universities, IITs, and recognized Research Institutions are required to deposit the full text of their awarded theses.

Shodhganga is one of the largest repositories of Indian doctoral research, currently hosting more than six lakh theses.

Borrowing and Renewals

  • First Degree students – 10 books
  • Higher Degree students – 12 books
  • Doctor of Philosophy students – 15 books
  • Faculty – 30 books

You can place a reservation via the KOHA WebOPAC. When the book becomes available, you will be notified by email and must collect it within 24 hours.

Books can be renewed online through KOHA unless another user has requested them. Each book may be renewed twice before it must be returned.

General User Support

Library staff are available at the Information Counter and Helpdesk to assist with resources, borrowing, access, and general guidance.

The Library provides comprehensive general support services to ensure users receive timely assistance and a smooth experience. Knowledgeable Library staff are available to help with enquiries related to resources, access to print and electronic collections, borrowing services, facilities, and general guidance. Users may visit the Library Information Counter or Helpdesk for immediate assistance or approach any Library staff member within the premises. The Library team is committed to providing prompt support and resolving issues efficiently to make every visit convenient and enjoyable.

Photocopying services are available in the Central Zone of the Library from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Only up to 20% of a book may be photocopied for academic use, and entire books cannot be copied due to copyright regulations.

 

 

Research Support

BITS Pilani has access to licensed Turnitin software for checking plagiarism. The software is institutionally subscribed and available for academic use by students and research scholars. Dedicated workstations for plagiarism checking are set up at all BITS Pilani campus libraries, where users can access the system and generate similarity reports as per institutional guidelines.
 

To check your research article or thesis for plagiarism, dedicated workstations are available at all BITS Pilani campus libraries. To generate a plagiarism report, you are required to visit the respective campus library and contact the Deputy Librarian or the Library-in-Charge for necessary guidance and access. On-campus students are expected to conduct the plagiarism check themselves using the designated systems. However, part-time Ph.D. scholars may submit their thesis to the Deputy Librarian/Library-in-charge of their respective campus for generating the plagiarism report.
 

BITS Pilani Library provides access to academic writing support tools. All BITS Pilani campus libraries subscribe to Grammarly, offering licensed access to enhance grammar, clarity, tone, and overall writing quality. This facility is available to Research Scholars, Faculty members, and Higher Degree students to support scholarly writing, research publications, and thesis preparation.

Donation of Books to Library

BITS Pilani Library welcomes gracious donations of books. Your generous contribution will significantly strengthen our collection and directly benefit our students and research community. If you wish to donate books, kindly write to the Librarian at the Email address. You may also drop the books in the designated Drop Box available in the Library, or send them directly to the Library address.
